The curriculum leverages the active research programs in the School of Architecture, including the work of both doctoral and professional-level students and the work of the High Performance Building Lab, the Digital Building Lab and the SimTigrate Design Lab. Students admitted to the MS. Arch program work in one of five concentrations: (1) High Performance Buildings; (2) Design & Health; (3) Advanced Production; (4) Building Information & Systems; and (5) Design Computation. Individualized programs of study are tailored from among courses in focal areas on the Master of Architecture and Ph.D. programs, and the curriculum may be completed within a one-year residency.

The Master of Science Program is a nonprofessional program in advanced architectural studies and is oriented toward advanced practice, scholarship, and research. Applicants may have previous degrees in architecture or other related fields. The program accepts students with a professional degree in a design or design-related field, as well as students with a baccalaureate degree in a nondesign field who wish to pursue an area of study offered in the Master of Science degree. There are currently eight areas of specialization in the fields of architectural design and its supporting technology and engineering disciplines. The areas of specialization offer flexibility for cross area coursework and multidisciplinary concentration. Graduates are well-qualified to serve in advanced practice or continue studies in a Ph.D. program.
