Letters of Recommendation

Request letters well in advance and remind recommenders as you approach the deadline

Make sure each writer ca attest to your character and your potential success in graduate school.

Include research advisors

Include instructors with whom you have taken more than one course, or with whom you have worked closely with on projects

Include relevent employers

Personal Statement

Who are you outside of your test scores and transcripts? What distinguishes you?

What are your plans for graduate study and career, and how will this program help you achieve your goals?

WHat previous research and leadership experience do you have, and how has it prepared you for success?

Have you overcome any hardships or obstacles that shows your determination and passion (may also be used to explain any gaps or poor metrics in your academic record)?

How do your research interests fit with the interests of faculty in the program?
