In the current era, there is a phenomenon that the public prefer to dwell separately rather than reside together. This essay may examine the possible reasons and potential effects to the society.

To begin with, a stronger sense of privacy may lead to the tendency of living individually. In the past when people lived with relatives together, their personal lives might be interrupted by others easily. However, the public may raise their awareness of privacy and moving out of the big house in the past may be their priority. Then, they could better enjoy their personal lives since they are free to make their schedules.

In addition, single person households may arise from technological progress to some degree. Decades ago, when letter writing was the only choice for communication, people might choose to live together to avoid inconvenience caused by long-distance information exchange. However, current technology enables individuals to chat online even if they are far away from each other. Then, people could select any place to live alone since Internet makes people stayed connected, but not isolated.

In terms of the influence on society, social relationships may not be maintained. Taking family members as an example, even if they could communicate through iPhone or other devices, inevitably, they may have fewer and fewer face-to-face activities together. Then, the emotional tie among family members may not be strengthened since they are accustomed to living on their own, not to mention the relationship among friends who do not get in touch frequently.

In sum, the notion of protecting privacy and technology advancement may account for why individuals intend to dwell by themselves. As for the influence, social bonding may not be so tight anymore.
