When it comes to the issue about whether local-produced food should be supported, some people may argue that it is beneficial to the environment and economy if people support their local food, and I also agree with such an opinion.

Initially, recommending local-produced food may serve to boost the local economy. For local farmers, many of them may just depend on the income brought by crops. If their food could be better promoted to consumers, it means that they could earn a lot more and their life quality could be improved as well. On the contrary, providing that local customers never purchase local food, those peasants may have to quit agriculture and find other careers instead.

Furthermore, the environment could also benefit from the fact that local food becomes more popular. It is acknowledged that some food needs to be transported among different continents, due to which some extra gas may be emitted during the transportation. However, if food mile could be limited to a minimal scale, then, the use of transportation both locally and globally could be correspondingly reduced. Therefore, with the less gas released, such as carbon dioxide, our environment could be better protected.

Admittedly, some opponents may argue that growing food locally may bring detriments to the local environment because of the use of fertilizer and pesticide to some degree. However, they may be neglecting the possible solutions for it. It is true that some farmers may still adopt some obsolete ways of growing crops currently, such as using fertilizer, but governments could better promote the concept of organic food. It is common that organic food usually is more expensive than normal one in the supermarket and it does not do harm to the environment without any chemical ingredients. Thus, if governments could provide peasants with better guidance on organic food, both the environment and peasants could benefit from it.

In sum, considering that eating locally-produced food could raise the income of peasants and reduce the air pollution, local people should support such food.
