【雅思口语P2】Describe something you did which was a waste of time

I would like to tell you one thing I did which I consider as a waste of time. It’s me hanging around on the Internet during one of my weekends, which happened several weeks ago. As to how I did it, well, it’s pretty simple. All I had to do is to get my computer running and connecting to the Internet. Since I got nothing to do at home and the gossip news could kill my time, I started to glance over the website without the time sense. I was so drawn to the gossip news of celebrities that I couldn’t even take my eyes off the screen. Although it’s interesting, it was really a waste of time. The reasons why I see it as a time-wasting activity are obvious. The gossip news on the Internet was just for entertainment, it had nothing to do with me. Besides, I could not learn much from this kind of news, unlike the scientific articles, from which I could acquire more practical knowledge and became more knowledgeable. Reading a book is much better than hanging around on the Internet for some useless information. After spending nearly 4 hours on the internet, I started to feel irritable since I realized that I had wasted a lot of time on this meaningless thing. If I could spend these 4 hours in reading books, I would gain far more knowledge than poking my nose into other’s affairs. So glancing over the gossip news on the Internet is not a sensible choice to kill your time, if you’re really bored, you can read a book or watch documentaries rather than waste your time on the gossip news.
