托福独立写作话题素材拓展：教育

对于很多TOEFLer来说，托福独立写作最让人惆怅的并不是不会写，而是不知道该写啥?托福独立写作部分话题涉及各类领域，考察考生对特定话题的独立观点阐述， 而让很多考生感到头疼的恰恰不是语言表达本身，而是拿到题目不知从何写起，遇到自己之前不熟悉不了解的话题，往往大脑一片空白。还有些同学因此走极端开始进行各类素材的疯狂记忆积累，背到最后舌头打结却并不能清楚明晰自己到底都背了啥。

It is more important for a teacher to help students gain self-confidence than to teach them specific knowledge.

当我们遇到教育类的话题时，我们首先应该思考的是：何为教育(What is education?)

Connotation 1: Knowledge imparting (知识传授)

知识传授(knowledge imparting)是教育的一个重要内涵，教师是传授(impart)专业知识的主要角色。

Sample Sentences:

1. Knowledge imparting is one of the important connotations of education. One responsibility of teachers is to teach specific knowledge to student.

2. Undoubtedly, teacher should impart knowledge to students since it is their main duty.

Connotation 2: Personality cultivation(个性培养)

如果学校只提供专业知识的传输而不注重个性培养，这个学校显然是误读(misread)了“教育”，因为教育应该“以人为本”(people oriented)，人的培养应该是全方位的(comprehensive)，比如个性的培养，自信的建立等。

Sample sentences:

Connotation 3: Cooperation and competition(合作与竞争)

朋友既可以是来自相同背景的，也可以是非常迥异的人通过竞争与合作共同进步。同时，当今社会竞争如此激烈，有不同背景的朋友有利于在社会上立足。

1. With different expertise, friends can make progress together by cooperation and competition.

2. Making friends with variety kinds of people fits in with the trends of nowadays’ society, since it’s competitive everywhere, we need all sorts of help
