Essay #1 (Required for all applicants. Approximately250 words.)

Everyone belongs to many differentcommunities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography,religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectualheritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe thatcommunity and your place within it.

Essay #2 (Required for all applicants.500words maximum.) FRESHMEN APPLICANTS

Describe the unique qualities that attract youto the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admissionand dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University ofMichigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?

同学们需要根据你所要申请的大学的文书题目， 注意挖掘和了解写作的主题——你自己~想清楚才能写明白。如果只是坐下来写，对主题没有深思熟虑，没有最大程度的了解自己，那么你很有可能遇到写作障碍，最后文思枯竭。思考申请文书的问题，给出答案，思考一段时间，接下来能产生更多的想法。

开头需要抓住读者的兴趣。这里提供几种开头方式供参考：以有趣的或是不寻常的事实或细节开头;以奇闻轶事或故事开头;以引用切入;以评价有报道价值的或众所周知的事件开始。结尾的表达方式有：总结所阐述的观点;总结然后推断未来;总结申请文中一些潜在的蕴意。初稿写好之后，你需要不断的修改。修改会提高写作的质量。从初稿到终稿要经过一两次修改。如果你想要写出优秀的申请文，修改是必要的，其实很多失败的申请文不乏有价值的想法。

一份完整的文书，至少要在递交大学申请截止前至少三个月就开始着手准备，一份优质的文书，从时间上讲需要至少半年以上准备。只有这样，你才有机会、有时间更改题目，修改内容，润色修辞，反复阅读它，打磨它。
