题目

The table shows information about the numbers of Australian people who visited the seven most popular destinations in 1999 and 2009.

The table illustrates seven destinations that Australian people paid a visit to and how the number of those tourists varied in a ten-year period from 1999 to 2009.

In the year 1999, New Zealand was the most popular country, with the figure of 500,700 travellers, which was followed by United Kingdom ( 400,000) and United States (300,000). There were over 100,000 people visiting Indonesia, Fiji and Japan. On the contrary, the number of visitors to China was only 86,000.

Over a decade, although the top three prevalent destinations remained the same, the situation of other countries had changed dramatically. It is noticeable that China gained more popularity, reaching the fifth-ranking position while the least people travelled to Japan, at 250,000. Fiji merely attracted 7,000 more visitors compared with that in Japan.

Overall, it can be seen that more and more residents in Australia travelled abroad. Moreover, the number of tourists to three Asian nations and Fiji had soared with above 150% of growth rate, especially for China, almost tripled in the ten years.
